There are essentially two types of home security system and these are hard-wired and wireless. A hard-wired system was traditionally the sort of system that is installed in shops, offices and homes. It offered high reliability and durability and is very permanent. However, these type of systems cost at a price. Unless you are extremely competent at electrical installation work don't attempt one of these yourself. You need a professional to install a hard-wired system and this can add to your overall home security install costs. So what alternatives are there and can you install an alarm system cheap?
A wireless alarm system provides an ideal opportunity for the do it yourself'er to install their own alarm system and save a lot of money. Installation is far more straightforward for a a wireless system against a hard-wired system.
Firstly plan out where you would like the control panel to be. It will usually be situated in an accessible hallway location. Then decide where you want your sensors to go. Concentrate on high traffic areas such as hallways and landings and make them your first priority that you need to protect and use PIR movement detection sensors for these. Then look at the main rooms in your home, especially the ones that could be easily accessible from outside. Be sure to install PIR movement detection sensors in these rooms too.
Your outside doors will need to be protected by door contact sensors. There are usually two types of door sensors - delayed and immediate. The delay sensor allows someone to enter the house and gives reasonable time to disarm the alarm system. Install this sensor of your main entry/exit points of your home. An immediate door sensor will send the system into alarm as soon as the door contacts are broken.
Generally, most wireless sensors are simply screwed to the wall or door - that's it you're done! Just learn them into your home security system control panel and you will be protected.
